PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, is a plastic commonly used in consumer products including building supplies, cars, toys and other goods. GAF Decking Systems has never used PVC in its products, including the ultra-low maintenance CorrectDeck CX. Many global companies, including Nike, Honda, Ikea and Mattel are switching to alternatives to this plastic.

Sustainable products are those products providing environmental, social and economic benefits while protecting public health, welfare, and environment over their full commercial cycle, from the extraction of raw materials to final disposition.

Concerns about the lack of recycling infrastructure for PVC building products have led us to choose to avoid this plastic. If you do choose PVC decking consider asking what can be done for proper recycling of end cuts and other jobsite scrap.

Marking all of our products with their resource content (60% wood fiber, 40% polypropylene) aids in cradle-to-cradle recycling.

We believes that every aspect of a product’s lifecycle should be as environmentally sustainable as possible, part of which includes being PVC-free given todays building products recycling infrastructure (or lack thereof).
